Nuclear Reactions and Radiation

Summary

Summary

NSE advances fundamental research in nuclear reactions and radiation to deepen our understanding of the atomic nucleus and expand the frontiers of radiation-based technology. Our faculty and students investigate the physics of nuclear interactions using accelerator-driven experiments and high-fidelity simulations, exploring reaction mechanisms, nuclear structure, and cross-section data critical to both applied and basic science. The department is actively developing and utilizing advanced radiation sources such as accelerators for applications in nuclear energy, national security, space systems, and materials research. This work supports the characterization of materials under extreme conditions, the detection and analysis of special nuclear materials, and the precise measurement of radiation-matter interactions. By combining experimental innovation with theoretical insight, NSE researchers are strengthening the scientific foundations of nuclear technology and contributing to breakthroughs in both classical and emerging domains.
